Previously known as Ghana UK Based Achievement (GUBA) Awards, GUBA was a non- profit Business & Innovation Awards instituted to celebrate, acknowledge, and support Ghanaian based businesses and individuals in the UK.
The inaugural GUBA Awards was held at Porchester Hotel in London in October 2009, and were held annually in the UK until 2019.
The awards, founded in 2009 by UK-based Ghanaian TV personality Dentaa Amoateng MBE, is the only event which enables business people, celebrities and proud citizens with a shared passion for Ghana to come together to network whilst celebrating the individual and collective achievements in the UK’s vibrant Ghanaian community.
As one of the most professionally executed and entertaining events, the GUBA Awards ceremony attracts a high calibre of Ghanaian and African political luminaries as well as business and entrepreneurial personalities. Guests have enjoyed the organisation and professional appeal of our past events.
2019 marked a significant change in the history of the GUBA Awards. For the first time since its inception in 2010, the awards were held in the United States of America as GUBA extended its horizon to acknowledge Ghanaians living in the United States and Canada.
The awards were held during the 74th session of the UN General Assembly and were attended by African dignitaries, including heads of state.
This shifted the focus of GUBA Awards from a Ghanaian diaspora event to a truly pan-African event. GUBA Awards USA brought a significant shift from a Ghanaian-focused awards scheme to a pan-African award scheme.
The new focus accounted for the theme of GUBA Awards USA; the event was held under the theme, “The African Diaspora, the Catalyst of Growth and Innovation.” In addressing the theme, the awards centred on the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 17, to strengthen global partnerships in achieving the ambitious targets of the 2030 Agenda.
